According to the latest data from Otexa (Department of Commerce's Office of Textiles and Apparel) the volume of American apparel imports from all countries reached 2,627 million square meters (MM2) in February, an increase of 558 MM2 or an increase of 26.96% compared to the same month last year. Meanwhile, Pakistan was ranked 2nd by recording a 32.81% increase in exports which reached 82 MM2 compared to the same month last year of 62 MM2.
China as America's largest apparel supplier experienced an increase of 32.30% to 950MM2. Vietnam, the second largest apparel supplier in America, recorded an increase of 29.06% with total exports of 430 MM2 while exports of apparel from Cambodia (the fifth largest supplier of apparel in America) increased by 28.04 in February 2022 to 122 MM2. Bangladesh as the third largest apparel supplier in America recorded an increase of 27.89% with total exports of 248 MM2.
Furthermore, India as the fifth largest apparel supplier in America experienced an increase of 20.79% to 115 MM2. Mexico (9th largest supplier of apparel) experienced a 7.50% increase to 67 MM2 in February 2022 compared to 63 MM2 in February 2021. El Salvador and Honduras experienced an increase of 10.70% to 53 MM2 and 6% to 71 MM2 respectively.
The combined imports of American textiles and apparel from all countries increased 39.05% in volume year on year in February to 8,073 MM2 and increased by 31.4% in value to reach US$10.01 billion.
